What

Product events leave the free beta. The Startup plan includes 1M events a month, then $5 per million. Automatic page views stay unmetered (they ride on browser_sessions); only track() calls, /v1/events posts and annotated spans count, as the ingest gateway already meters them.

How it's billed vs. how it's quoted

  • apps/api/autumn.config.ts: included: 1_000_000, $0.005 per 1,000. Autumn rounds overage up to whole billing blocks, so a literal 1M block would charge $5 for a single event over. Per-1,000 caps the rounding at half a cent.
  • Every surface quotes it per 1M:
    • Landing hero rate card and offer table: $5.00 / 1M events, 1M included (pricing-offer.ts normalizes events to a 1M quote block; the Autumn-unreachable fallback mirrors the config).
    • FAQ, /pricing.md, llms.txt, product events feature copy (en/ja/ko).
    • In-app plan cards: 1,000,000 events / then $5 per 1M events (Autumn's own display text would say "per 1,000").
    • Billing page rate labels and cost estimate: $5/1M events.
  • The onboarding lab's plan fixture now carries the real catalog items, so /lab/onboarding?step=4 shows the plan card as customers see it.

Rollout

The landing page and app read the live Autumn catalog, so nothing changes for customers until the config is pushed (atmn push from apps/api). Push after merge, then rebuild the landing page so its build-time fetch picks up the new price.

Verification

  • apps/web typecheck, apps/api typecheck, oxlint on changed files
  • Vitest: apps/web/src/lib/billing + onboarding lab (80 tests), apps/landing (85 tests)
  • Viewed locally: landing /pricing (rate card, offer table, FAQ) and the in-app plan card via the onboarding lab

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Pricing Updates
    • The Startup plan now includes 1 million product events per month, with additional usage billed at $5 per million. This replaces the previous unlimited, free beta allowance.
    • Pricing and usage estimates now display event overages on a per-million basis across the billing experience.
  • Product Information
    • Updated English, Japanese, and Korean pricing content and billing FAQs to explain the allowance and overage rate. Automatic page views are excluded, and events are retained for 365 days.

Product events leave the free beta: 1M a month on the Startup plan, then
$5 per million. Autumn bills them as $0.005 per 1,000 because it rounds
overage up to whole billing blocks, so a 1M block would charge $5 for a
single event over. The landing page, /pricing.md, the FAQ and the in-app
plan and spend views all quote the rate per 1M.

Page views stay unmetered; they ride on browser_sessions.

🟡 Confidence 6/10 · needs attention
The new quote math is display-only and pinned by the updated spend and cost-estimate tests; the FAQ's unpriced-catalog fallback is the one place it quotes a number the catalog did not give.
quality 90/100 · 1 warning · tests partial · risk medium

Product events leave the free beta: the Startup plan includes 1M events then $5 per 1M (billed per 1,000), quoted per million on the landing page, the pricing FAQ, llms.txt and the in-app billing surfaces. The numbers agree across surfaces and the overage math still bills per 1,000; one FAQ fallback misquotes an unpriced catalog.

  • startup item: unlimited becomes included: 1_000_000 plus $0.005/1,000
  • quoteUnits/formatQuoteUnits quote events per 1M in cost estimate, spend and plan cards
  • Landing offer, FAQ, ja/ko copy and llms.txt state 1M included, $5/1M
  • Onboarding lab fixture now mirrors the real catalog items

Before merge

  • Manual · atmn push from apps/api to publish the new product_events item
  • Manual · Rebuild/redeploy the landing after the push so its build-time catalog fetch picks up the price

Findings

🟠 Warning · F1 · Pricing FAQ quotes $0 per million while the catalog still has events unlimited

correctness · apps/landing/src/lib/pricing-faq.ts:30-32

money(events?.rate ?? 0) turns an unpriced allotment into $0, and volume(events, events.included) returns the localized "Unlimited" string into the {events_included} slot: on the live catalog (product_events still unlimited: true until atmn push) the FAQ on /pricing, its ja/ko twins and /pricing.md reads "Unlimited are included each month, then $0 per million", while the rate card on the same page renders m.pricing_free_beta(). Any landing deploy between merge and the config push ships that sentence.

Only add the events clause when the allotment is priced — e.g. keep the previous `faq_sessions_a` wording when `events.rate === undefined`, or move the events sentence into its own message so nothing renders when there is no rate. Do not default the rate to 0.

F1 · Warning · correctness · apps/landing/src/lib/pricing-faq.ts:30-32
Pricing FAQ quotes `$0 per million` while the catalog still has events unlimited
`money(events?.rate ?? 0)` turns an unpriced allotment into `$0`, and `volume(events, events.included)` returns the localized "Unlimited" string into the `{events_included}` slot: on the live catalog (product_events still `unlimited: true` until `atmn push`) the FAQ on /pricing, its ja/ko twins and /pricing.md reads "Unlimited are included each month, then $0 per million", while the rate card on the same page renders `m.pricing_free_beta()`. Any landing deploy between merge and the config push ships that sentence.
Suggested fix: Only add the events clause when the allotment is priced — e.g. keep the previous `faq_sessions_a` wording when `events.rate === undefined`, or move the events sentence into its own message so nothing renders when there is no rate. Do not default the rate to 0.
What was checked
  • Overage still bills per 1,000 events: spend.ts:210 divides amount by billingUnits, cost-estimate.ts:145 ceils per block
  • blockRate = rate/billingUnits × 1M = $5, and perBlock.toPrecision(6) cleans the float residue in all three labels
  • Non-events features keep their old labels: quoteUnits returns billingUnits, so block > 1 matches the old billingUnits > 1 gate

The pricing FAQ may briefly quote the wrong event rate if the landing page is deployed before the billing catalog is updated. Coordinate that rollout or fix the fallback before merging.

Until the Autumn config is pushed the live catalog keeps product events unlimited, so the FAQ would have read "Unlimited are included, then $0 per million". The events sentence is now its own message, with the beta wording when there is no rate.

🟢 Confidence 9/10 · safe to merge
The FAQ now keys off the catalog before quoting a price; the per-million quote math is pinned by the updated billing tests.
quality 100/100 · no findings · tests partial · risk medium

Prices product events at $5 per million after 1M included, quoting the rate per million across the landing page, the in-app plan cards and the billing estimate. The last commit's FAQ guard removes the "$0 per million" text; safe to merge.

  • pricingFaq quotes an events rate only when the catalog prices it, else keeps the beta sentence
  • pricing-offer normalizes an events rate to a 1M quote block
  • quoteUnits/formatQuoteUnits in apps/web render "$5/1M events"

Fixed since the last review

  • ✅ F1 · Pricing FAQ quotes $0 per million while the catalog still has events unlimited
What was checked
  • F1: pricing-faq.ts:32-35 falls back to faq_events_beta for an unlimited or unpriced events item, so no $0 quote
  • Events quote math: (0.005/1000)*1e6 = 5 in pricing-offer.ts:158, cost-estimate.ts:148, spend.ts:94, matching the updated billing tests
  • en/ja/ko message files parse and keep their key sets; ja/ko lack all faq_* keys by existing convention (1175 vs 1274), so Paraglide's base-locale fallback covers the two new messages
