Summary

  • Compute today's plain sunrise and sunset at the device location using existing schedule resolution.
  • Show a localized preview when sunrise or sunset is selected on night/dim schedule controls (hidden without coordinates).
  • Add tests and i18n strings (en/de).

Test plan

  • Open edit device for a device with a location; select "At sunset" / "At sunrise" and confirm today's times appear.
  • Open edit device with no location; confirm sunrise/sunset options stay disabled and no preview is shown.
  • go test ./internal/data/ ./internal/server/ -run 'TestTodaySunEvents|TestDeviceFormSunSchedules'

Made with Cursor

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Device schedule settings now preview today’s local sunrise and sunset times for sun-based triggers when the times are available.
    • Sunrise and sunset labels are available in English and German.

Help users see calculated sun times when choosing sunrise or sunset boundaries, using the same schedule math as runtime evaluation.

Walkthrough

The device update form now displays today’s local sunrise and sunset times for sun-based schedule triggers. The form receives both event times and an availability flag, and its preview updates when the trigger kind changes.

Changes: Today’s Sun Preview

Layer / File(s) Summary
Local-day sun event data
internal/data/schedule.go, internal/data/schedule_test.go
Device.TodaySunEvents() returns local HH:MM sunrise and sunset values when both events can be resolved. The test checks the values for Boston on June 21, 2026.
Update-form data flow
internal/server/helpers.go, internal/server/handlers_device.go, web/templates/manager/update.html, web/templates/partials/schedule_trigger.html
The update handler passes the event values and availability flag to the template. Schedule trigger instances receive those values.
Preview rendering and synchronization
web/templates/partials/schedule_trigger.html, web/templates/manager/update.html, web/i18n/*.json, internal/server/handlers_device_schedule_test.go
The trigger template renders localized sunrise and sunset times when available. Client-side synchronization updates or clears the preview based on the selected trigger kind. The form test checks for preview attributes.

Do not label polar fallback times as sun events.

During polar night or midnight sun, resolveTriggerRegime returns synthetic boundaries with ok=true. The preview therefore labels those boundaries as actual sunrise and sunset times. Check the returned regimes and indicate that the events do not occur, or suppress the preview. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Select events from the requested local date.

At high latitudes, the resolved sunset can fall on the next local date. Formatting only its clock time then labels tomorrow’s event as today’s sunset. Resolve adjacent solar days and select an event on the requested local date, or indicate when none occurs. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Clear or refresh the preview when the location changes.

If a user selects a new location in this form, location.js updates the submitted location, but this preview continues to show the old location’s times. Use the location-change callback to refresh the values or clear the preview until the form reloads. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
