There is no support for write_http or other ways of writing over the network

Collectd supports plugins that write to the network in different protocols. The protocol I need for my use case is write_http, but it would make sense for collectm to support plugins for writing stuff. I already have some ideas of how to add this in, but I'm just creating this issue to let everybody know that I'm planning to work on this.

As today (2015-03-16), I slightly changed the API in the branch process_plugin (https://github.com/perfwatcher/collectm/blob/process_plugin/src/plugins/dummy.js) and I will merge to master soon.

@ymettier I don't see what that has to do with plugins that implement sending collected metrics over the network; that looks like the rest of the plugins that collect metrics.

Oops, yes, you are right. That's collect plugins, not write plugins.

Feel free to implement. Just keep compatibility with Collectd (e.g. you can adapt the implementation with node-collectdout to be inside a plugin).

Opening this issue is a very good idea.

In order to follow this issue (and not having an open issue with a dead contributor), could you provide some information about what you are doing ? Best is probably to give a link to your fork of Collectm.

I currently do not have a fork and am not sure if and when I'll be working on it. I will update if anything changes though.

When you start your work, please take the crypto into account. This is a current development in issue #9 and branch crypto_support of collectm. Maybe it will be finished when you start, maybe not...
