Thank you, @alan-lira , for this valuable PR. In the existing code (using the older scheme for separate debug info), there was a comment at lines 1676-1690 for the file mpi-proxy-split/lower-half/lower-half.cpp, explaining how it would locate a symbol using the ELF interpreter. Could you write a similar comment perhaps above the function get_symbol_offset_with_debug(), similar to the old comment that had existed?
We'll then quickly approve it. Thanks for this update to the more recent build-id scheme. The old scheme is now very old.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick winReturn zero when a symbol is absent.
When the conventional debug file has
SHT_SYMTABbut does not containmmapormunmap,get_symbol_offsetcallsexit(1). This stopsget_symbol_offset_with_debugbefore it tries the matching build-ID file. Return zero instead so the existing fallback chain can continue. The other callers already treat zero as a lookup failure and then fall back or assert.Suggested fix

LGTM. And thanks for this PR.
Refs #485
Background
My working MANA v1.5.0 setup installs the loader's detached debug symbols and creates a compatibility link so MANA can find its
mmapandmunmapoffsets. This PR adds direct GNU build-ID lookup as an alternative to that compatibility link. The matching debug-symbol package is still required.
Changes
The lookup preserves the existing attempts to read symbols from the interpreter and its conventional debug path. If neither resolves the symbol, it reads the interpreter's GNU build ID and tries:
Validation
Validation used an Ubuntu workstation with a private MPICH 4.3.2 installation configured with CH3/Nemesis and Hydra.
mmapoffset:154880;munmapoffset:155104.p2p_blockingcheckpoint/restart test passed. The fixture suite covers embedded symbols, the conventional debug path, build-ID fallback through regular files and symlinks, missing debug files, and malformed ELF input.
Scope
This PR changes loader debug-file discovery and its tests.
