Auto Loot & Sell in action

Items tab with filters and item list    Settings tab: General, Automation, Protection

Settings tab: Marking, Display, Bag Maintenance, Destruction

I got tired of two things: clicking through loot windows full of stuff I'd never keep, and scrolling through my bags at every vendor trying to remember which green was safe to sell. This addon handles both.

When you loot, it picks up what matches your loot mode (everything, only gold, only mats, greens and up, whatever you set) and leaves the rest. When you open a vendor, it shows you a list of what it thinks is junk. You check it over, untick anything you want to keep, and hit Sell. Uncollected appearances, BoEs and equipment set pieces are protected by default, and with TSM or Auctionator it can hold back anything worth more on the AH too. It's hard to sell something you'll regret.

A few other things it does:

  • Remembers what you usually sell and starts pre-checking those items after you've sold them a few times.
  • Tracks what you sell after each dungeon or raid and suggests the same items next time you run it.
  • Can destroy worthless items when you're nowhere near a vendor and your bags are full.
  • Checks the WoW APIs it depends on at login. If a patch breaks one, only that feature switches off and everything else keeps working.

Quick start

  1. Install from CurseForge and /reload.
  2. A setup wizard opens the first time you log in. Pick a template (Safe Mode is a good start) and choose your protections.
  3. ALT+Click items in your bags to mark them as junk. You'll see an overlay on marked items.
  4. Open a vendor. The popup lists everything it plans to sell, with a checkbox on each row.

If you trust your filters and don't want the popup at all, switch to auto-sell mode in /als config and it'll sell as soon as the merchant window opens.

Tip

Settings are account-wide by default, so you set things up once on your main and your alts use the same rules. You can override them per character if you need to.

Features

Loot rules

Pick a loot mode from the button on your bag frame or the small panel under the minimap:

  • Everything: normal WoW looting, the addon stays out of the way
  • Greens / Blues / Epics & above: only loot items at or above that quality
  • Gold Only or Mats Only
  • Alt Mode: mats plus green-and-above, which is what I want on a leveling character
  • Custom: turn mats and a quality threshold on or off independently

Currency and quest items are always looted, whatever the mode. Anything that doesn't match stays on the corpse and the loot window closes by itself. Group loot rolls (Need/Greed/Pass) are never touched.

Selling

  • A popup at the vendor with sortable columns (name, ilvl, vendor price, AH value), a checkbox per item, and a Sell All button.
  • Compact mode if you don't need the full list: item count, total value, a per-quality breakdown and one Sell button.
  • Three sell modes: the popup (default), one-click, or fully automatic with a configurable delay.
  • Quality filters from gray to epic, each with its own ilvl cutoff. For example, sell greens below ilvl 200 and keep the rest.
  • Or skip the per-quality sliders and sell anything below a percentage of your equipped ilvl.
  • Optional: sell gear whose appearance you've already collected, and mounts, pets and toys you already know.
  • Category filters (consumables, trade goods, quest items, misc), plus expansion and slot filters.
  • Smart defaults. If you sell the same item three or more times, it gets pre-checked. If you keep unticking something, it gets pre-unchecked.
  • Instance tracking. It remembers what you sold after each dungeon or raid and suggests those items after your next run.
  • Small toast notifications for sell summaries, protection warnings and undo.
  • A confirmation step for epics and high-value sales, with a scrollable list of exactly what's going.
  • Buyback safety. Only the last 12 items you sell can be bought back, so the most valuable ones are sold last to keep them in those slots. Rows past the 12-slot limit get a red divider and tint.
  • Dry run mode, if you want to see what would sell without selling anything.
  • Auto-repair at vendors, using guild funds first.
  • A key binding (in WoW's Key Bindings menu) to toggle the popup at any vendor.

Protection

  • Never-sell and always-sell lists, account-wide and per character.
  • Uncollected appearances are never sold. The check is done per appearance source, not just per item.
  • Items in any saved equipment set.
  • Unbound BoE items.
  • Soulbound-only mode, for dungeon farmers who want every BoE held back for the AH.
  • Items in the Quest Items category.
  • Trade goods from the current expansion (optional).
  • Mount equipment.
  • Warband and account-bound items (optional).
  • Anything worth listing on the AH (optional, needs TSM or Auctionator).
  • Items you bought recently and can still refund.
  • If you run AllTheThings or CanIMogIt, their transmog data is used too.

Marking

  • ALT+Click an item in your bags to mark or unmark it as junk. The overlay can be a border, a tint, or both.
  • Shift+ALT+Click adds it to the always-sell list. Ctrl+ALT+Click adds it to the never-sell list.
  • A drag-to-mark button sits above your bags.
  • Gray items and gear below an ilvl threshold can be marked automatically as you loot them.
  • /als mark turns on bulk marking, so you can click through your bags without holding ALT.
  • Works with Bagnon, AdiBags, ArkInventory and Baganator.

Bag management

  • When your bags are full at a vendor, it can sell the cheapest items to make room.
  • Stack limits. Tell it to keep, say, 20 of something, and anything over 20 goes into the sell list.
  • A warning in chat or on screen when you're running low on bag space.
  • The total vendor value of your bags, shown above the backpack button.

Tracking

  • A status line on item tooltips telling you what the addon will do with that item and why.
  • A session tracker with gold per hour, in the minimap button tooltip.
  • Sale history for your last 200 sales, in its own scrollable window.
  • Lifetime sales per character, visible from any alt in the minimap tooltip.
  • Undo. For 5 minutes after a sale, /als undo buys it back (as much as fits in the 12 buyback slots).

Profiles

  • Five templates to start from: Safe Mode, Raid Farmer, Transmog Hunter, Leveling Alt, Gold Farmer.
  • Save and load named profiles.
  • Each character reloads the profile it last used when you log in.
  • Switch profiles automatically when you enter a raid, dungeon or battleground.
  • Export your never-sell and always-sell lists as a string and paste them into another setup.
  • The setup wizard runs once on each new character and defaults to Safe Mode.

Destruction

  • Destroy junk when you're not at a vendor. It has its own quality, ilvl and max vendor value filters.
  • A countdown confirmation shows the item list and how much vendor gold you're throwing away.
  • Items are deleted one at a time, and the addon checks what's on your cursor before each delete.
  • It never types DELETE into Blizzard's confirmation box for you. If that box shows up, destruction pauses and you decide.
  • Bag pressure valve: when free slots drop below a threshold, it offers to clear junk for you.
  • A never-destroy list that's separate from never-sell.

Integrations

Addon What you get
TSM / Auctionator AH price column in the popup, and AH value protection
Bagnon / AdiBags / ArkInventory / Baganator Junk overlays show up in their bag frames
AllTheThings / CanIMogIt Better transmog detection
Leatrix Plus A warning if its own auto-sell junk option is on, since the two will fight

If something goes wrong

A sale only counts once the game confirms the item actually left your bags. History, stats and undo are updated after that, not before. If the addon can't get the item data it needs, or an optional addon like TSM throws an error, it stops and does nothing rather than guess.

If you hit a bug, run /als debug, reproduce the problem, and include the diagnostics line it prints in your bug report along with the steps you took. Issues go here.

Testing locally

Run the install script to copy the addon into your WoW AddOns folder:

./install.sh

It defaults to /Applications/World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOns/AutoLootAndSell. Pass a different path as the first argument if your install lives somewhere else. Then /reload in game.

Tests and linting

Tests use busted and run outside the game. CI runs the same commands, and luacheck has to come back with zero warnings:

luacheck AutoLootAndSell spec --no-color
busted spec

Test files and dev tooling are excluded from release zips by .pkgmeta.

Releasing

Releases are built by GitHub Actions using BigWigsMods/packager. You just push a tag:

git tag v1.2.3
git push origin v1.2.3

From there the pipeline runs luacheck, packages the addon (skipping everything .pkgmeta ignores), uploads it to CurseForge and creates a GitHub release with the zip attached.

Secrets

Add this under GitHub > Settings > Secrets and variables > Actions:

Secret Where to get it
CF_API_KEY CurseForge API tokens

Important

GITHUB_TOKEN is provided automatically, but it needs write access. Set Settings > Actions > General > Workflow permissions to Read and write.

Version number

Don't put a version number in the .toc. It says @project-version@, and the packager swaps in the git tag at build time.
