AI-era positioning: landing page, docs with llms.txt, provider guides, working hero demo - #9
Conversation
…dance The hero's "try it live" card called POST /api/channels anonymously, which hosted mode rejects with 401, so it failed for every visitor. POST /api/demo/channels mints an ownerless channel that lives an hour, accepts at most 50 requests of up to 64 KB, is rate-limited per IP and can never be forwarded or switched to sync; the visitor's browser holds its key. Intake now answers 410 for an expired channel instead of accepting until the hourly cron deletes it. send_test_event for Vapi sends Authorization: Bearer (Vapi's default credential) unless vapi_auth asks for the legacy X-Vapi-Secret. The MCP instructions name the dashboard tab as a forwarder and steer agents to fresh signed events instead of replays once Stripe/OpenAI/ElevenLabs signatures expire, and unanswered test events say what to do next.
… pass Pages are now addressed as #/<id>, so every page has a URL. A build step renders each React page to Markdown and publishes llms.txt, llms-full.txt and one .md per page, so what an LLM reads cannot drift from the site. New: AGENTS.md snippet, Sync responses, and provider guides for OpenAI (Standard Webhooks), ElevenLabs (server tools and post-call), Vapi, Stripe and GitHub, each checked against the provider's docs and SDK source on 2026-10-08. Every existing page was re-measured against the code. Removed claims that were no longer true: anonymous 24-hour channels, a shipped desktop app, the secret-hash scheme, a per-channel SSE route, browser-side path filtering, magic-link-only sign-in, the old plan table, and outdated facts about ngrok and other tunnels.
Hero and sections now say what BridgeHook is for today: webhook testing for apps built with AI and the agents building them. A new section covers the MCP loop, sync replies for voice tools, and the offline queue. Removed claims that were false (anonymous use, 24h expiry, 60/min limit, shared teams, a paid ngrok inspector). The nav's Docs link pointed at GitHub; it now opens the docs. The hero demo uses the new demo endpoint, so it works signed out. The AI agents page links the AGENTS.md snippet and provider guides, and the Chrome Web Store listing is updated for v0.2.0.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Limit demo request bytes while reading the body. request.text() reads the complete body before this 64 KiB check runs. A request without Content-Length can therefore make the unauthenticated intake allocate an oversized body before it returns 413. Count bytes during the read and stop at the demo limit. Based on learnings, a post-parse size check does not enforce a streaming body limit.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Enforce a rate limit before creating demo channels. If RATE_LIMIT is unset or KV fails, checkRateLimit returns true. An unauthenticated caller can then repeatedly reach the database insert and create ownerless channels without a request limit. Make the demo route fail closed or use an available rate limiter before the insert. Based on learnings, unauthenticated database writes need throttling before database work.

Demo channels (anonymous, so every limit is tight): - 16 KB bodies, 8 KB headers, 5 creates per IP per hour, at most 200 live at once (503 beyond), so worst-case storage is about 240 MB. - The 50-event cap is one atomic INSERT ... SELECT ... WHERE count < 50: 70 concurrent senders keep exactly 50. - DEMO_CHANNELS=off disables the endpoint for self-hosters. - The hourly cron deletes expired channels in batches of 200, with a partial index on channels.expires_at (migration 0002). MCP: the relay's own sync 504/502 is reported as not answered or unreachable rather than as the handler's status, and replay_event says what to do when nothing answered. Docs: the SSE stream accepts a device token; replay schema and device code cleanup described as they are; Free retention marked not yet enforced (HAL-2445 decides); demo endpoint, 410 and limits documented; sample ids are 12 hex characters; the example prompt sends again rather than replaying. Routing ignores prototype keys, and the sidebar GitHub link works. Hero demo: says when the URL expires and how many of the 50 requests are used, shows an expired state when the URL is gone, forgets the key on reset, and no longer promises the demo URL becomes permanent.
- Relay sync answers carry X-BridgeHook-Relay-Answer (timeout or unreachable), stripped from handler replies so a handler cannot pass for one; MCP detects them by the tag and passes on the relay's detail. - The demo's hourly per-IP quota is spent only on a create that will succeed, and the live cap counts expired channels until the cron sweeps them, so the storage bound holds. - Demo channels return ttlSeconds; the hero sets its timer from it, not from the visitor's clock. - The hero drops a channel whose create finished after a reset or unmount, and ignores poll results for anything but the current URL; pollEvents no longer delivers a response that lands after stop().
Positions BridgeHook as webhook testing for apps built with AI, and for the agents building them. Every claim on the landing page and in the docs was re-measured against the code, or against vendor docs and SDK source, on 2026-10-08.
