Add ProjectRoots to tell the project from other inferred roots - #27
Roots() infers every package nothing depends on as a root. In an image SBOM that includes packages such as alpine-baselayout or apt, which aren't the project. The proxy's inventory (git-pkgs/proxy#626) needs to skip the project's own entries without dropping those, and Andrew asked for that rule to live here rather than in the proxy.
ProjectRoots() returns the declared roots plus inferred roots that syft records as coming from a lock file that lists the project: package-lock.json, npm-shrinkwrap.json, Cargo.lock, uv.lock and yarn berry's yarn.lock. When all roots are declared it returns them as Roots() does, and nil for a flat-list SBOM.
Tests: the syft lock-file fixtures check ProjectRoots() alongside Roots(), and the alpine and nginx fixtures (CycloneDX and SPDX) check that only the image is returned.

New Features
Added a way to retrieve project roots separately from declared roots. Results include roots inferred from supported project lock files, such as package-lock.json, Cargo.lock, and uv.lock; flat-list SBOMs return no project roots.
Documentation
Clarified how declared roots and roots inferred from lock files are represented.
Roots infers every package nothing depends on as a root, which in an image
includes packages such as alpine-baselayout. ProjectRoots keeps the
declared roots and inferred roots read from a lock file that lists the
project.
The SBOM package adds ProjectRoots to distinguish declared roots and inferred project roots from other inferred roots. It classifies lock files, updates graph root collection, and adds tests and documentation for the results.

ProjectRoots filters inferred roots using declared roots and project-containing lock files. Graph detection uses DESCRIBES relationships and dependency sources. Tests cover image SBOMs and flat-list SBOMs. The Relationships documentation describes the method.
Flat-list behavior currently works, but a populated example would better protect it against regressions.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 24a6d
The new method narrows root selection without changing existing root enumeration. No introduced security defect was established. The remaining uncertainty is how downstream consumers authenticate SBOM inputs and use the selected roots to exclude inventory entries.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — A caller controlling an SBOM's declarations, relationships, and package provenance can influence project-root selection within that document. The inspected selector returns IDs only; it does not itself delete inventory, access named paths, or cross a tenant or service boundary. Any wider exclusion effect depends on downstream use.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The selector constrains output to IDs already returned by Roots, providing a membership boundary against adding arbitrary package IDs through lock-file metadata alone. It does not validate the truth of document declarations or provenance strings.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 4 functions across 3 files. Add a populated flat-list case to TestProjectRootsFlatList.
The test uses an empty SBOM, so it cannot detect a populated flat list that returns inferred roots. No other test calls ProjectRoots() on a flat-list SBOM with packages. A regression in that path would pass the suite.
