This adds a new chips plugin folder under src/chips/. It wraps the MOS Technology 6581 "SID" sound chip from the Commodore 64, using the header-only m6581.h emulator from floooh/chips. The header is vendored in the directory, so there is no new external dependency. It's enabled by default and can be disabled with -BUILD_CHIPS_OPCODES=OFF.
An example .csd file, .md help file, and a basic audio rendering of the opcode in use are also provided.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added SID 6581 sound synthesis opcodes for configuring envelopes and voices and generating audio.
Added an example composition showcasing layered SID-style music and drums.
Build Configuration
The new opcodes are included in the standard build by default and are staged with Linux and macOS plugin builds.
The WebAssembly build excludes the chips opcodes.
Updated Csound discovery to support Csound 7 and improve Windows installation detection.
Documentation
Added opcode usage, parameter, build, and licensing details.
Csound 7 on Windows names its import library csound7_64.lib (double) / csound7.lib (single) rather than csound64.lib, so find_library must search those names first.
Vendors the floooh/chips m6581.h SID emulator (header-only, no external dependencies) and exposes it as the sid6581 opcode: three voices (freq/wave/pulse-width/gate) plus a multi-mode filter, built with the CPOF plugin framework (plugin.h/modload.h).
Register a ChipADSR user-defined struct via RegisterStruct with named k-rate members (.att/.dec/.sus/.rel, seconds + 0..1 sustain) that are readable and writable with dot notation. Add a chipadsr constructor opcode and rework sid6581 to take three ChipADSR values, latching A/D/S/R on note-on and refreshing release on note-off. Update the chips examples (modern syntax) and READMEs.

Walkthrough
The pull request adds a MOS 6581 SID emulator and three Csound opcodes for defining voices, envelopes, and audio output. It adds CMake build integration, updates Csound discovery, excludes the opcodes from the WebAssembly build, and adds documentation and a composition example.

Summary
MOS 6581 emulator src/chips/m6581.h
Adds emulator types and APIs, plus voice, envelope, waveform, filter, register-access, and sample-generation implementation.
Csound opcode integration src/chips/sid6581.cpp
Adds the sid6581adsr, sid6581voice, and sid6581 opcodes. The wrapper converts inputs to SID register values, handles gate transitions, and generates audio samples.
Build configuration and packaging CMakeLists.txt, src/chips/CMakeLists.txt, cmake/Modules/FindCSOUND.cmake, wasm/default.nix, .github/workflows/plugins_build.yml
Adds and packages the chips target, updates Csound discovery for Apple and Windows, and disables the chips opcodes in the WebAssembly build.
Plugin documentation and example README.md, src/chips/README.md, src/chips/example.csd
Documents the opcodes, parameters, fixed SID settings, build option, and licenses. Adds a Csound composition example with sequenced musical parts.

- Around line 69-70: Update the Csound 7 Windows library search hints in the
FindCSOUND logic to include the installer’s Csound7/lib directory under both
ProgramFiles and ProgramW6432, while preserving the existing lib64 hints.
- Around line 38-39: Add the x86 Csound 7 include directory to the Windows
include hints used by find_path, using the ProgramFiles(x86) environment
variable alongside the existing ProgramFiles and ProgramW6432 hints.
Review comments at @src/chips/example.csd:
- Line 108: Update the lead_note assignment in the section 6 lead-hook logic so
the octave transposition is applied only when the value read from lead_hook is
positive. Preserve zero-valued rests so they do not become playable notes.
- Around line 3-4: Update the Csound options in the example to use portable
audio output and remove the hard-coded Windows audio backend and device
selection; load the chips plugin through Csound’s plugin search path or document
a platform-specific plugin path. Apply the same portability guidance to the
short example in the chips README.
Review comments at @src/chips/m6581.h:
- Around line 259-262: Make the M_PI dependency self-contained in the m6581
header: after including math.h, provide a guarded local M_PI definition when the
platform has not supplied one. Preserve any existing platform definition and
remove the need for this header to be included before other Csound or math
headers.
- Line 486: Update the return expression in _m6581_trisawpulse to use bitwise
AND between the shifted sm values, preserving the waveform bits instead of
reducing the result to a boolean.
Review comments at @src/chips/README.md:
- Line 129: Qualify the mode 8 voice 3 mute description and the filter-mode
description to state that voice 3 is silenced only when it is outside the filter
route; when iRouteMask includes voice 3, mode 8 does not mute it.
Review comments at @src/chips/sid6581.cpp:
- Around line 305-309: Add a non-ticking register-write function to m6581.h and
its CHIPS_IMPL implementation, applying the masked register address and data
without advancing the chip clock. Update sid_write to call this function instead
of m6581_tick, and revise its comment to describe the non-ticking write
behavior.
