Borut Balazek

Senior Software Engineer. I joined ClassCharts as the first developer alongside the CTO when it served a few dozen schools, and left eight years later when it served thousands of schools and millions of users across UK education, after TES Global acquired the company. Along the way I rebuilt the web application from jQuery to React in place, moved three native Android apps onto React Native so that six store listings came off one codebase, took the platform through three generations of infrastructure, and migrated 40+ TB of assets between cloud providers with the platform up.

Since then: founding engineer on an AI market-intelligence platform, where I owned the product side end to end, the web app, both mobile apps, the Express API and the alerting engine, plus the AI layer on the data platform a separate team built. Before that, backend engineer on a smart-city programme of 20+ microservices across five domains on Kubernetes.

15+ years of it, mostly TypeScript and Node.js on PostgreSQL, Docker and Kubernetes, with Python for data work and eight years of PHP and CakePHP underneath.

Open source: I worked on the physics and asset loading side of Babylon.js for a few years, and some of it is still in there. Before that I was doing neural networks in JavaScript, with a few fixes merged into synaptic and a couple of text-classification trainers on top of it, then the same again for TensorFlow. That was 2016, a long way from the LLM pipelines I work on now, but the same itch.

Now: building Guestavo and AfterGather end to end, on tooling I wrote. How that works.

Open to a long-term senior seat, employee or B2B contractor.

What I am looking for.
