Authup beta.68 adds worker health reporting. This updates the default image and enables the dedicated worker by default, moving background sweeps out of the API process.

  • Add configurable HTTP readiness on / (port 3000 by default), with custom-probe and diagnostic-mode support. Readiness follows upstream guidance so database outages do not trigger restart loops.
  • Preserve worker.enabled=false for in-process sweeps; keep that path covered by the server-only CI fixture.
  • Update render contracts, generated docs/schema, the design record and the pinned upstream mapping.

Upgrade: Set worker.enabled=false to retain the previous topology or when disabling the server. Move any server.config.WORKER_PORT override to worker.containerPorts.http. If pinning a pre-beta.68 image, disable worker readiness. Chart release versions remain managed by release-please.

Validation: make test passed (Helm lint, all seven CI renders, values coverage and runtime contracts). The local ct binary is unavailable, so ct lint --config .github/configs/ct.yaml --charts charts/authup was run successfully in the existing chart-testing v3.11.0 container. Regenerated README/schema with the pinned generators; git diff --check passed. No local Kubernetes installation was performed.

Upstream contract verified against v1.0.0-beta.68, commit 114f1bbc2dd16eb8be859e56e683b2fc9cd226b5.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • The dedicated background worker is now enabled by default, alongside the server and built-in PostgreSQL.
    • Worker readiness checks are enabled by default and use a configurable HTTP port. Database outages mark the worker unready without restarting it.
    • Disable the worker to keep background sweeps running in the server process.
  • Breaking Changes

    • Worker port overrides now belong in the worker’s port settings rather than server configuration. Deployments that disable the server must also disable the worker.
    • The default Authup image is updated to v1.0.0-beta.68.

Track Authup 1.0.0-beta.68 and move background sweeps into a dedicated worker by default. Probe worker health with configurable HTTP readiness, preserving opt-out and diagnostic behavior.

BREAKING CHANGE: worker.enabled now defaults to true. Set it to false to retain the previous topology or when server.enabled is false. Configure WORKER_PORT through worker.containerPorts.http.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The chart updates to Authup beta.68, enables the dedicated worker by default, and adds a configurable HTTP health port and readiness probe. Contract checks, CI values, and documentation are updated to describe the worker topology and readiness behavior.

Changes

Dedicated Worker

Layer / File(s) Summary
Worker configuration and probe rendering
charts/authup/values.yaml, charts/authup/values.schema.json, charts/authup/templates/*, charts/authup/ci/*, scripts/check-beta64-contract.py
The worker is enabled by default. Its HTTP port defaults to 3000, and readiness checks support configured settings or a custom probe. Diagnostic mode suppresses the probe. Contract checks cover worker opt-out, port and probe settings, and invalid ports.
Runtime contract and rollout documentation
.agents/*, AGENTS.md, DESIGN.md, Makefile, README.md, charts/authup/BREAKING.md, charts/authup/Chart.yaml, charts/authup/README.md*
Documentation describes the beta.68 worker topology, readiness behavior, configuration, and rollout considerations. The chart app version changes to beta.68.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in AGENTS.md: The make test comment changes the contract check label from “beta.64” to “runtime.”
  • observed — Modified behavior in DESIGN.md: The documented target version changes from beta.64 to beta.68, and the default install description adds a dedicated worker to the combined server and built-in PostgreSQL.
  • observed — Modified behavior in DESIGN.md: The worker changes from having no port and being described as an optional separate Deployment to a default separate Deployment with an HTTP health port configured by worker.containerPorts.http (3000 by default), a readiness probe, and no liveness probe. The documentation specifies that readiness checks sweep health, no Service is needed for kubelet probes, and disabling the separate worker keeps sweeps in the server process. It also records the beta.68 health endpoint and port behavior.
  • observed — Modified behavior in DESIGN.md: The non-goal changes from excluding a worker Service or HTTP probes because the beta.64 worker had no HTTP listener to excluding a Service or liveness probe while noting that failed sweeps affect readiness without triggering restarts.
