fanctrlplus2: warn when a configured sensor gives no reading (#21) - #23
Closes#21 (the stuck-at-Idle cause itself was fixed in #22, released in 1.9.6).
Change
A sensor without a reading drops out of the fan curve. A fan whose only source is missing runs at Idle Speed and the dashboard just says Idle, so a failed sensor looks like a cool one.
The loop now collects the configured CPU and auxiliary sensors that gave no reading each round: a missing file or tool, a failing or timing-out custom script, unparseable output, or an implausible value. Once some have stayed unread for at least 60 seconds, it sends one Unraid warning per fan per boot naming them (flag on tmpfs, as with the nct6687 stuck-fan warning). The grace period covers a tool the boot installs after the loop starts. Disks are left out: a spun-down disk has no temperature by design. Fan speed behavior is unchanged.
The auxiliary readings are now produced once per round as one line per sensor, from which both the hottest value and the unread sensors come, so no sensor is read twice.
Tests
tests/aux_sensor_read_test.sh: which sensors count as unread (missing file, failing script, hwmon input reading 0) and which do not (cold reading, empty entry).
tests/nct6687_stuck_test.sh: the grace-period tracking, one notification per flag, no notification without a writable flag.
bash tests/run-all.sh: 28 of 28 pass.
Smoke run of the real loop with storcli missing and a 10 s interval: exactly one notification after 60 s. Disabled sensors, readable sensors, and a sensor that appears within the grace period sent none.
No automated test drives the loop itself (the repository has none; it sources fixed /usr/local/emhttp paths), so its wiring is covered by the smoke runs only.

New Features
Fans now trigger one Unraid warning per boot when a configured CPU or auxiliary sensor has no reading for at least 60 seconds. The warning identifies sensors without readings. If no other configured source provides a reading, the affected fan runs at Idle Speed. Failed warning delivery can be retried.

Review fixes: a CPU sensor file that exists but holds no usable number now
counts as unread, the warning text says 'at least' 60 seconds since it is
checked once per round, a dead guard is gone, and the tests cover an hwmon
input reading 0 and an unwritable flag.
The change identifies unread configured CPU and auxiliary sensors, tracks how long they remain unread, and sends an Unraid warning after 60 seconds. It also documents the warning and the stated fan behavior when no other source provides a reading.
Per-sensor readings identify unread sensors and provide the values used to select the hottest reading. Tests cover unread sensor names and hottest-value selection.
Track missing sensors and send warnings src/usr/local/emhttp/plugins/fanctrlplus2/scripts/disk_group_control.sh, tests/nct6687_stuck_test.sh, README.md
The helpers track unread periods and send one warning per flag file. Failed notifications clear the flag for a later retry. Tests cover tracking and notification behavior. The README describes the warning and stated fan behavior.
Integrate tracking into the loop src/usr/local/emhttp/plugins/fanctrlplus2/scripts/fanctrlplus2_loop.sh
The loop accumulates unread CPU and auxiliary sensors, updates the missing-sensor timer, and calls the warning helper when sensors are overdue.

andrebrait/fanctrlplus#22: This PR retains per-round auxiliary sensor tool discovery and uses the resulting readings for both hottest-value selection and unread-sensor tracking.
Merge Risk: Low · up to f70d6
The warning can incorrectly say the fan runs at Idle Speed when a CPU sensor reads zero. Fan control is unchanged; correct the wording, but this does not otherwise block merging.

Explanation
The title names the main change: the plugin now warns when a configured sensor gives no reading. The objectives confirm the change adds an Unraid warning for CPU or auxiliary sensors unread for at least 60 seconds. The title is concise and specific, and it does not describe anything absent from the changeset. The issue number in the title (#21) differs from the PR number in the objectives (#23), which is a minor inconsistency that does not affect the title's relevance.

Explanation
Issue #21 is closed and supplies historical context only. It does not impose active coding requirements. The reviewed changes implement the current PR intent: unread CPU and auxiliary sensors receive delayed, per-boot Unraid warnings, while disk sensors remain excluded.

- A CPU sensor reading 0 counts as unread, as an aux hwmon input does.
- The CPU temperature is reset every round, so an unusable value no
longer reuses the previous round's reading.
- A notification that fails to send drops its flag and is retried on
the next tick; the nct6687 stuck-fan warning gets the same fix.
- The warning text and README say 'at least 60 seconds' and that the fan
cannot react to the sensor, which is accurate for the CPU case too.

Track the missing-reading grace period per sensor
When multiple configured sensors fail on alternating rounds, this preserves the same start time as long as any sensor is unread, even if each individual sensor recovers within 60 seconds. For example, if A is unread at t=0, only B is unread at t=30, and only A is unread at t=60, the loop warns that A has been unread for at least 60 seconds despite its successful reading at t=30. This false warning also consumes the fan's sole notification for the boot, suppressing a later genuine sustained failure. Track each sensor's missing-since time independently and notify only for sensors whose own grace period has elapsed.

Fixed in f70d6de: each sensor now has its own start time, reset as soon as it reads, and the warning names only sensors that each stayed unread for the full 60 seconds. Your A/B/A sequence is a test case; it fails on the shared-clock version and passes now. A smoke run of the real loop with two missing sensors sent one notification naming both after 60 seconds.
The grace period ran on one clock that kept going while any sensor was
unread. Sensors failing on alternate rounds could add up to a warning
none of them earned, naming a sensor that had read inside the window,
and that false warning used up the fan's one notification for the boot.
Each sensor now has its own start time, reset as soon as it reads, and
the warning names only the sensors that each stayed unread for the full
60 seconds. Unread sensors are passed as a list rather than a joined
string.

An unreadable CPU file still counts as 0 °C, so a fan whose only source it
is stays at Min Speed rather than Idle Speed. The warning, README and
comment now say so. Fan speeds are unchanged.
