FamilyCall is a simple Android app designed to help you quickly call family members, share your location, and send an emergency message or call.
It is made for older adults and the people who care for them. The main screen uses large photo tiles, large buttons, and clear words so the important actions are easy to find.
Development note: FamilyCall was developed with AI assistance to help create and improve the app.
- Tap a family member's photo to call them.
- Long-press a photo to add, edit, or remove a contact.
- Add a photo for each person so their face is easy to recognize.
- Choose whether to ask for confirmation before calling.
- Open the Location tab.
- Tap a contact whose location sharing is enabled.
- FamilyCall will collect your current location and send a message containing a map link.
- The contact can be added to the list by selecting Location can be shared with this person when editing their details.
- Open the SOS tab.
- Press and hold the large red button for three seconds.
- FamilyCall can send a message containing your location to the selected contacts.
- It can also call the first selected emergency contact.
- A selected contact can be configured to receive only an SOS message, only a call, or both.
The SOS button does not respond to a quick tap. Keep holding it for the full three seconds.
- Open the Call tab.
- Tap the + tile to add a new person.
- Enter the person's name and phone number.
- Choose a photo if you want to use one.
- Select the options for location sharing and SOS.

To change an existing contact, press and hold their photo. You can edit their details, move them in the list, or delete them.
Open the Settings button on the Call tab to:
- Enter the name shown in messages.
- Choose whether you want a confirmation before calling.
Your contacts and preferences are kept on the device. FamilyCall does not require a server or online account to use these features.
- The phone must have the required permissions for calling, sending messages, and finding your location.
- Location sharing needs the phone's location services to be available.
- A message is sent only to contacts you have selected.
- The app should not be used as a replacement for emergency services. If there is an immediate emergency, call local emergency services first.
FamilyCall stores contact information and settings on this phone only. It does not send your contacts to a server.
Please remember:
- Use trusted family members as SOS contacts.
- Keep the emergency phone numbers current.
- Review the selected contacts before using the SOS button.
- Keep the phone charged and the location and messaging permissions enabled when these features are needed.
