Repo: VoltAgent/voltagent

create-voltagent-app writes AI_PROVIDER_CONFIG[provider].model into the generated src/index.ts. Two of those defaults point to models the providers have shut down, so a new project fails on its first request:

Provider Before Status After
Anthropic anthropic/claude-3-5-sonnet Claude 3.5 Sonnet retired 2025-10-28 (Anthropic deprecations) anthropic/claude-sonnet-5-5
Google google/gemini-2.0-flash Shut down 2026-06-01 (Gemini deprecations) google/gemini-3.6-flash

The replacements are the ones those pages list. The modelName labels shown in the provider prompt are updated to match.

With @voltagent/core from npm and a real Gemini API key, new Agent({ model }).generateText(...) gives:

  • google/gemini-2.0-flash: This model models/gemini-2.0-flash is no longer available. Please update your code to use ...
  • google/gemini-3.6-flash: returns text.

The Anthropic change wasn't run against the API; it's based on the deprecation page. Agents don't set temperature by default, so Sonnet 5.5's restriction on sampling parameters doesn't apply to the generated project.

vitest run in packages/create-voltagent-app passes. The CLI matrix test reads AI_PROVIDER_CONFIG, so it covers the new IDs. A changeset is included.

Summary by cubic

Replaces the retired default models in create-voltagent-app so new projects stop failing on their first request. anthropic/claude-3-5-sonnet and google/gemini-2.0-flash are shut down, so generated projects now use anthropic/claude-sonnet-5-5 and google/gemini-3.6-flash from the providers' deprecation pages, and the modelName prompts are updated to match.

A changeset is included and vitest run passes; the CLI matrix test covers the new IDs since it reads AI_PROVIDER_CONFIG. The Gemini swap was verified against the API, while the Anthropic swap is based on the deprecation page. Agents don't set temperature by default, so Sonnet 5.5's sampling restrictions don't affect generated projects.

Written for commit 63583b5. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Updates
    • New projects now use Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Gemini 3.6 Flash as their default AI models.

New projects created with the Anthropic or Google provider defaulted to
anthropic/claude-3-5-sonnet and google/gemini-2.0-flash. Both models are
shut down (Claude 3.5 Sonnet on 2025-10-28, Gemini 2.0 Flash on
2026-06-01), so the generated agent fails on its first request. Use the
replacements from the providers' deprecation pages,
claude-sonnet-5-5 and gemini-3.6-flash.
