Scriptline

A script-to-timeline workflow panel for Adobe Premiere Pro. Paste your script, split it into blocks, and Scriptline auto-calculates timing from your speaking pace — with pinnable start times, chapter dividers, linked timeline markers, and one-click SRT / YouTube chapter export.

Premiere Pro License

What it does

If you write scripted voiceover / talking-head content, Scriptline turns your raw script into a structured, timed block list synced to your Premiere Pro sequence:

  • Paste in your script, or import a .txt file, and split it into blocks by paragraph.
  • Each block's start time is estimated automatically from a words-per-minute rate you set — and cascades forward as you edit.
  • Pin any block's start to the current playhead position; everything before it stays put, everything after re-cascades around it.
  • Add chapter dividers to break the script into sections, drop linked timeline markers, and select a chapter's range as the sequence's In/Out points for quick scrubbing or exporting.
  • Export an SRT subtitle file or a YouTube chapter list straight from your blocks and chapters.

Installation

  1. Copy the whole plugin folder into your CEP extensions directory:
    • Windows: %APPDATA%\Adobe\CEP\extensions\
    • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/
  2. If the panel doesn't show up, your Adobe app may be blocking unsigned extensions — you may need to enable CEP debug mode for your Adobe app version (search "CEP debug mode" for your CC version if this happens).
  3. Restart Premiere Pro.
  4. Open the panel from Window → Extensions → Scriptline.

Features

Blocks & Timing

  • Auto timing from WPM (configurable in Settings), cascading start times
  • Pin a start time to the playhead (Click), unpin with Ctrl/Cmd + Click
  • Conflicts are flagged (red) only when two pinned blocks are out of order — auto-estimated blocks compress to fit but never falsely flag
  • Split a block by selecting text inside it; merge adjacent blocks with one click

Chapters & Markers

  • Chapter dividers that inherit the start time of whatever follows them
  • One-click linked timeline markers per block, or Markers for All in Edit mode
  • Chapter In/Out selection on the sequence timeline, toggle on/off
  • Hover a chapter title to dim everything outside it

Editing

  • Dedicated Edit mode: drag-reorder blocks, edit inline, insert blocks/chapters anywhere
  • Color tags per block (also used for that block's marker color)
  • Per-block comments and a "done" checkbox — both searchable and filterable

Search, Export & Projects

  • Search text/comments, filter by color tag or completion status
  • Playhead tracking: auto-highlight and auto-scroll to the block under the playhead
  • Export to .srt or a YouTube chapter list
  • Multiple projects, stored locally in your app-data folder — your media and sequence are never touched
  • Import/export projects as .json

Usage

  1. Start a project — click + New Project (or import an existing .json project).
  2. Paste your script on the paste screen, then Split by Paragraphs — or drop in a .txt file.
  3. Set your speaking rate (WPM) in Settings so the auto timing matches your pace.
  4. Play your voiceover in Premiere and click a block's timecode at the right moment to pin its start to the playhead.
  5. Switch to Edit mode to reorder blocks, tag colors, add comments, split/merge text, or insert chapter dividers.
  6. Use the marker icon on a block (or 🚩 Markers for All in Edit mode) to drop linked markers on your timeline.
  7. When you're done, hit the export icon to generate an .srt file or a YouTube chapter list.

Known limitations

  • Timing is speaking-rate-based, not audio-analyzed — treat it as a starting estimate, not a transcript alignment tool.
  • Requires unsigned/debug-mode extensions to be enabled (see Installation).
