An evolution-based simulation game and learning tool utilising procedural generation to emulate the evolution and diversity of the natural world
EvoSim is a desktop application that emulates the evolution of life forms and natural environments through simulated genetics, speciation, and environmental diversity. It serves both as an engaging sandbox game and a learning platform for understanding evolutionary principles.
- Python: Core engine language
- Tkinter: GUI framework for menus, screens, and integration with Turtle graphics
- Turtle Graphics: For visualising environments and organisms
- SQLite: For dynamically storing and loading organism data
- Procedural Generation: Organisms and environments are generated with a range of traits, appearances, and behaviors.
- Genetic Mutation & Speciation: Organisms genetically mutate each turn. If mutations are significant, a new species is created dynamically.
- Visual Diversity: Randomised colours, features, and terrain types (with water features and plant life) make every game unique.
- Interactive GUI: Built using tkinter, with an integrated turtle canvas for real-time simulation display.
- Robust Save/Load System: Save and load entire game states, including organisms, environments, and activity logs.
You can start the simulation in one of the following ways:
- Double-click
EvoSim.bat
(This will launch the simulation automatically)
- Run the following command in your terminal:
python main.py
