Problem

After the PC sleeps or hibernates, Bridge keeps running but its tray icon is gone. Logs show the existing relaunch fallback never fires, since the GUI loop doesn't exit.

Fix

logic runs at least once a second. A wall-clock gap of 10s or more is treated as a resume, and the tray icon is rebuilt (reusing the existing menu). Logs Resumed from sleep; recreating the tray icon.

Testing

  • Unit tests for resume_gap (normal ticks, long gap, threshold, clock set backwards).
  • Not tested against a real sleep/hibernate cycle; the new log line shows whether it ran.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Note

Recreate the tray icon after sleep or hibernate resume

  • Detects sleep/hibernate resumes by watching for forward wall-clock gaps of at least 10 seconds (RESUME_GAP) between TrayApp logic ticks, and rebuilds the tray icon via the new TrayState.recreate_icon method
  • Extracts icon creation into build_tray_icon so TrayState can rebuild the icon while reusing the retained menu; recreation errors are logged, not propagated
  • Adds resume_gap helper plus tests covering normal ticks, one-hour gaps, the exact ten-second threshold, and backward clock movement
  • Risk: backward clock changes and gaps under RESUME_GAP (10s) never trigger recreation, so resumes shorter than 10 seconds of wall-clock jump keep the old icon

Macroscope summarized 581e415.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved tray icon reliability after the computer resumes from sleep or hibernation.
    • Tray functionality now recovers automatically after extended system inactivity or clock changes.

Windows can drop the notification-area icon across sleep while the
process keeps running, so the existing relaunch fallback never fires.
Detect a resume from a wall-clock gap in the tray loop and add a fresh
icon.

📝 Walkthrough

The tray app now detects wall-clock gaps of at least 10 seconds and recreates its tray icon after a detected resume. Backward clock changes do not trigger resume detection. The change also adds tests for gap thresholds and clock changes.

Changes: Tray Resume Recovery

Layer / File(s) Summary
Retain and rebuild tray icon
src/desktop.rs
TrayState now retains the tray icon and menu. A shared builder creates the icon, and recreate_icon rebuilds it from the retained menu.
Detect resume and restore tray icon
src/desktop.rs
TrayApp tracks wall-clock ticks and checks for gaps of at least 10 seconds. When it detects a qualifying gap, it recreates the tray icon. Tests cover ordinary intervals, threshold and longer gaps, and backward clock changes.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 581e4

If tray-icon recreation fails after resume, the icon may remain absent until Bridge restarts. The change is mergeable with this bounded recovery risk understood.

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 581e4

The recovery path reuses the existing menu and action handlers without adding privileges or expanding access. No material security risk was found in the change.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The changed recovery operation is bounded to the current desktop process's tray registration. Its clock-gap input selects icon rebuilding, not a new privileged action or downstream service operation.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Tray input still enters through the existing callbacks and action receiver. Menu events must match the retained Restart or Exit IDs; unmatched IDs are ignored. Icon recovery does not change these controls.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Successful assignment replaces and drops the previously owned icon handle; failed construction leaves that ownership unchanged. Repeated recovery attempts reuse one field rather than accumulating application-owned handles. Actual native unregistration depends on the tray library's cleanup behavior.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 581e415

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped tray-icon recovery fix that preserves the existing menu and only recreates the icon after a long UI gap, with normal ticks unchanged. The implementation is isolated to the desktop UI and includes tests for the resume-gap detection.

Keep recovery pending if icon recreation fails.

If recreate_icon() fails after a qualifying gap, last_tick already contains the current time. Subsequent one-second ticks do not meet RESUME_GAP, so the tray icon can remain absent until the process restarts. Keep recovery pending and retry with a bounded delay until icon creation succeeds.
