Part of making sure every brand's controls are wired in. These two were reported by the drivers but never shown in the app.

Changes

  • Angle tuning: a -30° to +30° slider on the Performance tab for mice whose driver reports an angle (ATK, Cooler Master, Endgame Gear OP1, Keychron, Lamzu, MCHOSE, Ninjutso, Orbital, Pulsar Pro, RAWM, Wallhack, WLMouse). Each driver checks its own limits on write.
  • Magnetic buttons (G-Wolves, Lamzu): a section per button on the Advanced tab with switch type, trigger point, release point (Lamzu), rapid trigger toggle and sensitivity. Flipping rapid trigger rebuilds the page so the sensitivity slider appears or disappears.
  • Mock: OPENMOUSE_MOCK=mag adds a fake Hall-effect mouse for looking at these without hardware.

Not included

Magnetic calibration (needs a progress screen), and the remaining unwired fields: lighting zones, ATK pairing status, Pulsar Pro dongle LED modes, extra Finalmouse reference values, Razer lift-off ranges.

Testing

Checked on screen with the mock device: both button sections render, the angle slider shows on Performance, and toggling rapid trigger adds its sensitivity slider. Not tested on real hardware. On a real G-Wolves, rapid trigger is read-only unless the mouse is on its cable. Trigger and release values have no unit because the drivers don't say what a step is.

Note

Add angle-tuning and per-button magnetic controls to device controls UI

  • magneticControls in controls.ts generates per-button Advanced controls for switch type, trigger/release points, and rapid trigger on magnetic mice. writeMagnetic handles the matching writes through the HID client and updates the loaded status after each call.
  • Adds angle-tuning control to performanceExtras for a fixed set of writable brands (MCHOSE, Pulsar, WLMouse) and explicitly writable mock statuses. writeControl dispatches the writes and rounds values.
  • Adds a Lamzu magnetic-mouse mock in mock.ts so the new UI and write paths can be exercised without hardware.
  • entry.ts returns a refreshed controls layout after magnetic rapid-trigger enablement writes, so the dependent sensitivity control appears or disappears immediately.
  • Behavioral Change: statuses that report angle tuning but whose brand is not in ANGLE_TUNING_WRITERS no longer receive the angle-tuning control; unknown magnetic fields or unloaded button data still raise errors in writeMagnetic.

Macroscope summarized c8dcccf.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added magnetic-button controls for switch type, trigger and release points, and rapid trigger.
    • Added angle-tuning controls for supported devices, with values rounded to whole degrees.
    • Magnetic settings that the device cannot configure are displayed as read-only where applicable.
    • Added a magnetic-device option to the mock device list.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Control layouts now refresh after changing magnetic rapid-trigger settings, keeping displayed values and statuses current.

- Angle tuning: a -30 to +30 degree slider on the Performance tab for
every mouse whose driver reports an angle.
- Magnetic buttons (G-Wolves, Lamzu): per-button switch type, trigger
point, release point, rapid trigger toggle and sensitivity on the
Advanced tab. Flipping rapid trigger rebuilds the page so the
  sensitivity slider appears or disappears.
- OPENMOUSE_MOCK=mag adds a fake Hall-effect mouse for looking at these.

📝 Walkthrough

The controls interface now includes magnetic-button settings and angle tuning. Writes update device status, and magnetic rapid-trigger changes refresh the control layout. The mock configuration adds a Lamzu magnetic-device candidate and status fixture.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to c8dcc

The new controls are internally consistent and no merge-blocking behavior was identified.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to c8dcc

The controls use the existing local device-access path, with no demonstrated increase in attacker authority. Risk is limited, but hardware-side validation and recovery after incomplete writes remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated exposure is local configuration of HID candidates accessible to the application. The inspected caller path does not establish a new remote principal, cross-tenant boundary, or privilege gain.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Rendering applies capability and range gates, but the new write handlers do not independently enforce all those gates. This is not a demonstrated authorization bypass: the normal caller uses generated controls, and the base already allowed dynamic setter dispatch. Hardware-side range and transport-state enforcement remains unverified.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The normal UI blocks overlapping writes and reports failures without applying successful-state updates. The existing adapter retries queued-not-processed errors, bounds open and action waits, and attempts client cleanup. These controls do not prove cancellation, rollback, or reconciliation after partial hardware success; close itself has no timeout, and setter return values are not used to reconcile cached magnetic values.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR adds new production HID controls for angle tuning and magnetic-button behavior, including per-button writes and dynamic UI updates. The scope is beyond a minor self-contained change, and validation is limited to a mock device rather than real hardware.

No real-device magnetic implementation is present in the pinned protocol.

The real Lamzu and G-Wolves clients do not report magneticButtons or implement the magnetic setter methods. Therefore, magneticControls generates no magnetic controls for those devices. The new feature is limited to the mock path until the protocol adds the status fields and setter methods, and the desktop dependency updates to that implementation.

ATK, Ninjutso, Orbital, Wallhack, Endgame Gear and the other brands report the
angle but have no setAngleTuning, so the slider would fail on every write.
Gate on the brands whose drivers implement it (MCHOSE, Pulsar Pro, WLMouse);
the mock still shows it.

Addressed the two CodeRabbit findings:

  • Angle tuning (fixed): valid. Only the MCHOSE, Pulsar Pro and WLMouse drivers implement setAngleTuning; ATK, Ninjutso, Orbital, Wallhack and Endgame Gear only report the value, so the slider would have failed on write. The control is now shown only for those brands (and the mag mock). The PR description's brand list for angle tuning was too broad; it should read MCHOSE, Pulsar Pro and WLMouse.
  • Magnetic buttons (no code change): also valid as an observation, but already safe. The pinned @openmouse/protocol has no magneticButtons status field or magnetic setters for Lamzu or G-Wolves, so magneticControls emits nothing on real devices and the sections only appear on the OPENMOUSE_MOCK=mag device. They will light up once the protocol adds those fields and the dependency is bumped. The description's claim that these work on G-Wolves/Lamzu hardware shouldn't be read as shipped today.

Not addressed: the docstring-coverage warning (cosmetic).
