I'm a plant scientist, and I build imaging hardware and software for crop research and farming. I run Haystack Imaging, a small engineering studio in Wageningen. At the moment I'm building Pitchfork, a handheld four-camera field instrument.
I studied Molecular and Applied Plant Science in Hannover and Plant Science in Wageningen. Before that I trained as a biological technical assistant.
- Thermal calibration tool corrects the drift of thermal drone cameras with reference panels measured in the field.
- PhenoSelect uses YOLOv11 to find each leaf in plant phenotyping images, then sorts the leaves by trait.
- Altum channel alignment lines up the bands of a MicaSense Altum multispectral camera to sub-pixel accuracy.
- Passive thermal ground targets are ESP32 boxes that log their own temperature in the field as a reference for thermal drone flights (target firmware, master station).
- Fiji macros for canopy cover, seed counting and hyperspectral imaging of whole apples.
- An archery competition clock and an irrigation logger, both small microcontroller builds.
Python (OpenCV, NumPy, Ultralytics YOLO), C and C++ on ESP32 and Arduino with PlatformIO, Rust and Tauri, Fiji/ImageJ, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing, CAD and PCB design.
