🟡 Empty Apache responses lose parsed fields
When Apache combined logs contain zero-byte responses, regex_parser rejects their - byte count. Those records reach Maple without parsed timestamps, severity, or HTTP fields.
Learn more
Apache's standard combined format writes - for a zero-byte response. The parser accepts only digits for body_bytes, so a 304 or HEAD response with no body fails the whole parse. The receiver then forwards the raw line because its regex operator defaults to on_error: send. The guide explicitly says one parser handles nginx and Apache combined logs at combined format.
Example: An Apache access log ending in "GET /asset HTTP/1.1" 304 - "-" "curl/8" has no numeric byte count. The parser forwards it raw rather than assigning status 304 and its timestamp.
Recommended fix: Allow - as well as digits in the byte-count capture, and convert - to zero or omit the size attribute before the OTTL Int() conversion. Cover both Apache's - and nginx's numeric 0.

Fixed: the byte-count group now accepts -, and the transform processor deletes http.response.body.size when it is - before the Int() conversion. Re-ran with a 304 - line: status 304, INFO, no body size.

Fixed, but not with 1xx: the stanza severity placeholders only cover 2xx to 5xx, and a 101 line still came out unmapped with that suggestion. Info now uses a numeric range (min: 100, max: 399); re-ran and a 101 line is INFO.

Preserve access-log records across Collector restarts.
The filelog receiver defaults to start_at: end and keeps offsets only in memory. If Nginx writes records while the Collector is stopped, the restarted Collector skips those records. A pre-existing sample file is also skipped until new lines arrive. Set start_at: beginning and configure persistent filelog offset storage so the receiver can catch up without rereading the whole file on each restart. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Make the ingest endpoint match the Maple organization’s region.
If a reader uses an EU organization’s ingest key, https://ingest.maple.dev rejects the export. Allow the endpoint to be configured, or tell readers to use https://ingest.eu.maple.dev for EU organizations. (maple.dev)

Covers log formats (syslog, nginx combined, JSON, logfmt, multiline), regex and grok, Linux command-line parsing, and Collector filelog operators plus OTTL, with a tested nginx access log config that exports to Maple.
…log parsing guide Apache writes - for a zero-byte response, which failed the whole regex. 101 upgrades had no severity because the 2xx-5xx placeholders do not cover 1xx; use a numeric range instead.
Rebuild the page on the guide standard: a short title, six sections with subsections, a field-colored before/after of one nginx line whose colors carry through the regex, the Collector config and the debug output, tabs for the Linux tools and for each log format, and the receiver renamed to file_log. Every Collector fragment is a raw-imported file that was run on otelcol-contrib 0.163.1. Adds shell and Collector debug output to the guide highlighter.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Make the logfmt and multiline records consistent with the JSON record.
The JSON tab result (Lines 197-204) keeps ts and level in the attributes after the inline timestamp and severity blocks parse them. The nginx config shows the same behavior. It needs an explicit remove for time_local, and status is still present after severity parsing.
The logfmt result omits the time, level and Body lines. logfmt.yaml has no remove or move operator, so the Collector keeps time and level in the attributes and keeps the raw line in the body. The multiline result (Lines 228-236) has the same problem: time, level and Body are missing.
The guide says each tab shows "the record the Collector printed for it". With the current text, readers can think the inline blocks remove the source field in some parsers but not in others.
Run the debug exporter again for these two tabs and paste the full output. If you want to keep the output short, add a note that it is trimmed.
