v1.20.0 — August 19, 2026

This release hardens runtime option handling, adds RFC 9110 status-code aliases, fixes Node.js and XHR reliability issues, and refreshes project tooling and documentation.

⚠️ Breaking Changes & Deprecations

  • HTTP Status Naming: Added ContentTooLarge (413) and UnprocessableContent (422), while retaining PayloadTooLarge and UnprocessableEntity as backward-compatible deprecated aliases. (#11082)

🔒 Security Fixes

  • Runtime Option Handling: Hardened behavioral configuration reads against shared and foreign prototype pollution and normalized unsafe interceptor replacement objects. This also clarifies Fetch redirect and custom implementation behavior, HTTP/2 DNS and proxy handling, CIDR-based NO_PROXY matching, and malformed data URI rejection; see the PR for documented compatibility effects. (#11141)

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Interceptor Lifecycle: Prevented unbounded handler-array growth by trimming trailing ejected interceptors without changing iteration semantics, and kept interceptor operations safe when the public handlers field is nullish. (#11087, #11118)
  • Request Error Preservation: Prevented custom Error.prepareStackTrace implementations that return non-string values from replacing the original request failure with an unrelated TypeError. (#11109)
  • XHR Reliability: Navigation-canceled requests now reject with ECONNABORTED instead of resolving with status 0, while successful downloads flush their final progress callback during the live loadend dispatch. (#11094, #11121)
  • Node.js Socket Memory: Removed request-context retention from per-socket error listeners, preventing completed response data from being pinned for the lifetime of pooled keep-alive sockets. (#11091)
  • Core Methods and HTTP Errors: Prevented structural method-header buckets from leaking into outgoing headers, standardized invalid DNS lookup and httpVersion failures as AxiosError.ERR_BAD_OPTION_VALUE, and corrected the timeoutErrorMessage merge strategy. (#11096)

🔧 Maintenance & Chores

  • Dependencies: Updated fast-uri, postcss, js-yaml, mocha, development-tooling groups, and GitHub Actions dependencies. (#11092, #11098, #11099, #11106, #11107, #11122, #11123, #11126, #11127, #11133, #11140, #11143, #11144)
  • Documentation: Applied the v1.19.0 documentation updates, added the missing fs import to the README stream example, introduced localized global search, and repaired the interceptor test link. (#11101, #11113, #11097, #11119)
  • Sponsorship: Updated sponsorship links and data and added ScrapingBee as a sponsor. (#11124, #11136, #11137)
  • CI and Release: Switched ESM smoke tests to locked dependencies and synchronized package and runtime version metadata for v1.20.0. (#11128, #11152)

Full Changelog (axios/axios@v1.19.0...v1.20.0)

v1.19.0 - July 22, 2026

This release raises the form-data security floor, adds configuration and type-system capabilities, and fixes NO_PROXY matching, interceptor errors, progress reporting, and serialization edge cases.

🔒 Security Fixes

  • Multipart Form Data: Raised the form-data dependency floor to ^4.0.6, preventing fresh installations from resolving versions affected by the CRLF injection vulnerability GHSA-hmw2-7cc7-3qxx (GHSA-hmw2-7cc7-3qxx). (#11028)

Changelog

v1.21.0 — October 21, 2026

This release adds response timing and opt-in UTF-8 Basic authentication, improves request handling across runtimes, and changes how header defaults are recognized.

⚠️ Breaking Changes & Deprecations

  • Header Defaults: Only plain objects, null-prototype maps, and compatible AxiosHeaders instances are treated as common or method-specific defaults; literal headers such as Link are now preserved. Applications using custom class instances as defaults must convert them to plain maps, for example { post: { ...customDefaults } }, or compatible AxiosHeaders. Otherwise, those instances become literal header values, including on requests using other methods. (#11156)

🚀 New Features

  • Response Timing: Added response.duration, in milliseconds, including on error.response when present. Timing measures adapter execution and excludes interceptors and transforms; streamed responses stop timing when the stream becomes available. Axios replaces any existing duration value supplied by a custom adapter. (#11214)
  • UTF-8 Basic Authentication: Added transitional.encodeBasicAuthUsername: true to support Unicode usernames in XHR and Fetch requests. The option defaults to false, preserving existing authentication behavior; applications opting in should supply the original Unicode username and remove manual pre-encoding workarounds. (#11159)

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fetch Compatibility: Restored requests in runtimes such as Cloudflare Workers that reject the implicit cache: 'default', while preserving explicit caller settings. Response-size failures now retain their original ERR_BAD_RESPONSE and request context when runtime wrappers replace the underlying stream error. (#11194, #11179)
  • Runtime Consistency: Aligned encoded-byte size accounting, multipart uploads, proxy routing, same-origin resolution, parameter merging, and form serialization across adapters. Circular parameters now reject with ERR_BAD_OPTION_VALUE, and sparse or non-index numeric form fields serialize as keyed objects. With proxy: false, native proxyEnv agents using unsupported pool-management or TLS-session lifecycle overrides now reject with ERR_BAD_OPTION_VALUE; construct those agents without proxyEnv. (#11242)
  • Header Handling: Preserved headers named __proto__ using safe casing without changing the AxiosHeaders instance prototype. Function matchers in has(), delete(), and clear() now receive the headers instance as this, matching their declared contract. (#11134, #11216)
  • URL and Data URL Parsing: Accepted case-insensitive supported URL schemes and Base64 markers, and corrected decoding of percent-encoded Base64 data URLs. Node data URL allocation estimates remain aligned with decoding so configured size limits apply before allocation. (#11138, #11163, #11294)
  • Error Diagnostics: Preserved short reconstructed request stacks and appended wrapped error stacks under Caused by: so tooling that reads only error.stack retains the original failure context. (#11132, #11142)
  • Interceptor Removal: Restored removal through canonical numeric-string interceptor IDs, including after registry compaction. (#11139)
  • Proxy TLS: HTTPS CONNECT tunnels now apply current origin TLS options from an explicit httpsAgent, or from https.globalAgent when no explicit agent is supplied. This preserves process-wide custom CA settings through proxy tunnels. (#11178)
  • XHR Lifecycle: Used asynchronous Cookie Store reads for XSRF tokens where supported, preserving cookie fallback, timeout accounting, and cancellation. Upload and download progress listeners are now removed on completion, failure, timeout, and cancellation. (#11166, #11225)
  • HTTP/2 Sessions: Stopped reusing sessions immediately after GOAWAY and prevented draining sessions from scheduling idle timers that could delay process exit. (#11210)
  • TypeScript Declarations: Exposed the response-default marker as a public type to resolve TS2527 when consumers emit declarations involving unresolved response generics, covering both ESM and CommonJS. (#11125)

🔧 Maintenance & Chores

  • Configuration Performance: Reduced request configuration merge overhead, particularly for requests with many headers, while preserving merge semantics and prototype-pollution guards. (#11208)
  • Same-Origin Checks: Removed obsolete Internet Explorer detection without changing origin decisions in supported environments. (#11174)
  • Dependencies: Updated follow-redirects to 1.16.1 and refreshed development, documentation, test, and GitHub Actions dependencies. Removed unused dayjs from the docs package, root chalk, and chai from CJS module tests. (#11169, #11188, #11189, #11195, #11212, #11213, #11218, #11220, #11221, #11230, #11234, #11244, #11245, #11266, #11267, #11268, #11269, #11270, #11271, #11272, #11298, #11302, #11303, #11304, #11305, #11306, #11313, #11321, #11322, #11323, #11342)
  • Documentation: Fixed interceptor test links, updated README CDN examples to the published 1.20.0 bundle, and corrected guidance on interceptor options and request lifecycle ordering. (#11228, #11149, #11335)
  • Contributor Workflow: Consolidated agent instructions in AGENTS.md, standardized PR labels, required prerelease notes and validation evidence, and clarified that npm test requires installed Playwright browsers. (#11238, #11273, #11223, #11284)
  • Sponsors and Support: Added HeroDevs, Code for Japan, and Sweepico sponsor listings, refreshed sponsor data, and documented extended security support for Axios v0. (#11222, #11249, #11252, #11341)
  • Proxy Regression Coverage: Added a long dotted request-hostname test for NO_PROXY handling, extending coverage of an existing denial-of-service fix. (#11235)
  • Release Preparation: Updated package version metadata for 1.21.0. (#11346)

Updates multer from 1.4.5-lts.1 to 2.5.0

v2.5.0

Important: Security

What's Changed

New Contributors

Full Changelog: expressjs/multer@v2.4.0...v2.5.0

v2.4.0

Highlights

multer finally supports Google Cloud Functions and Firebase 🎉

These platforms read the request body before your code runs, so multer's classic req.pipe(busboy) received nothing: empty req.body, empty req.files, and nearly a decade of duplicated issues.

The new streamHandler option closes that gap: you decide how the body reaches the parser, so the pre-read rawBody just works (see image).

const multer = require('multer')
const upload = multer({
storage: multer.memoryStorage(),
streamHandler: (req, busboy) => {
// Cloud Functions / Firebase expose the pre-read body here
if (req.rawBody) busboy.end(req.rawBody)
else req.pipe(busboy)
}
})
app.post('/upload', upload.single('file'), (req, res) => {
res.json({ name: req.file.originalname, size: req.file.size })
})

This landed thanks to community PRs going back to 2017; their authors are credited as co-authors in the release.

2.5.0

  • Fix CVE-2026-113872 (GHSA-q7qp-rjg7-q26m)
  • Accept a field value of exactly limits.fieldSize bytes, so LIMIT_FIELD_VALUE fires only when the limit is exceeded. This also covers the default fieldSize of 1MB, so a 1048576 byte value is no longer rejected when you set no limits. If you set fieldSize one higher to work around this, you can drop the extra one (#1481)
  • Do not add a file to the abort cleanup list when its storage engine reports an error after a LIMIT_FILE_SIZE abort; DiskStorage no longer tries to unlink an undefined path (#1489)

2.4.0

  • Fix CVE-2026-88932 (GHSA-3pph-fpjx-jg34)
  • Add filename to LIMIT_FILE_SIZE and LIMIT_UNEXPECTED_FILE errors (#1416)
  • Accept a function for limits, called with the request, to set limits per request (#1133)
  • Add opt-in flush option to DiskStorage to fsync files before the callback runs (#1458)
  • Expose busboy's defCharset, highWaterMark and fileHwm options (#1465)
  • Add streamHandler option to feed busboy from pre-consumed bodies (Google Cloud Functions, Firebase) (#1466)
  • Allow multer.diskStorage() to be called without options (#1471)
  • Decode WHATWG-escaped characters (%0A, %0D, %22) in field names, matching file.originalname since 2.3.0: req.body keys, file.fieldname and err.field now carry the real name. If you matched the escaped spelling as a workaround, use the real name now (#1473)
  • Report the decoded filename in err.filename on LIMIT_FILE_SIZE errors, matching file.originalname (#1478)
  • Reject non-integer or negative limits values at construction time; a float limit silently disabled the check (#1395, #1335)
  • Accept requests with exactly limits.parts parts; LIMIT_PART_COUNT now fires only when the limit is exceeded. If you set parts one higher to work around this, you can drop the extra one (#1446)
  • Files skipped by fileFilter no longer count towards maxCount (#1426)
  • Change the LIMIT_UNEXPECTED_FILE message to "Unexpected file field" (#426)
  • Remove the concat-stream dependency (#1356)
  • Docs: add JSDoc to the public API and document the storage engine stream contract (#1467, #1468)
  • Docs: add FormData upload examples (#896)
  • Docs: remove the translated READMEs (#1463)
  • Internal: run the test suite on macOS (#1464)

Bug Fixes

  • fetch: strip credentials on any cross-origin redirect (a15360c)

v10.1.0

10.1.0 (2026-10-10)

Behaviour changes

  • Pooled connections are closed after 4 minutes without a message (new idleTimeout pool option, set it to 0 to keep them open). A message whose recipients are rejected no longer closes the pooled connection, it is reset with RSET and reused, and a message is requeued when the server dropped a reused connection before any of it was sent.
  • connectionTimeout covers setting the session up as a whole: the DNS lookup, a proxy handshake, the TCP connection, TLS, the greeting and a STARTTLS upgrade. greetingTimeout still bounds the greeting and the STARTTLS handshake within it.
  • Any 421 reply ends the SMTP session. When the server closes an idle connection, SMTPConnection emits only end, not an ECONNECTION error.
  • A content stream that was already read or destroyed fails the message with ESTREAM instead of producing an empty attachment. Content streams of a message that fails are destroyed.
  • With opportunisticTLS, authentication is skipped on the unencrypted connection after a failed STARTTLS, unless forceAuth is set.
