RHELMISC 34338: Add client role support (DUT/SUT/Support/Master/Stress) - #991
Conversation
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Code Review
This pull request introduces a structured way to manage client roles in HLK platforms by adding a ClientRole enum and a PlatformClients helper class. It refactors HCKTest and Tests to dynamically resolve primary and auxiliary clients based on these roles, and updates the platform JSON configurations accordingly. The review feedback suggests refining the Sorbet type signature for build_platform_clients to avoid unnecessary nilability, removing an unused index parameter in build_entries, and ensuring consistent boolean return types in download_memory_dumps when no support client is present.
Important
The consumer version of Gemini Code Assist on GitHub is being sunset. Starting June 18, 2026, new organization installations will be blocked, and all code review activity will officially cease on July 17, 2026.

📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to Role-based client handling adds SVVP support, but several issues remain open. Restored SVVP sessions can fail setup when they search for a target on a Master or Stress client. Role validation may accept invalid or mode-mismatched platform configurations. The support-role payload sent when queuing tests has not been confirmed against the script that receives it. Resolve these issues before merging. Pre-merge checks |

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Keep the original failure when the client acceptance fails.
The rescue StandardError block replaces every error with the message "waiting for the client acceptance timed out". This also happens to the EtherError that Line 92 raises when the first message is not START. The same message replaces EOFError, Errno::ECONNRESET and the EtherError from fetch_output_with_timeout. As a result, operators see a timeout when the server actually sent bad data or closed the connection. Re-raise EtherError without changes. Add the original class and message to all other errors.
