First run of scripts/inventory.sh on the Mac (macOS 27.0.1, arm64), with the brew bundle dump fix from #78 (without it the Brewfile only says # brew bundle dump failed). This is the input for classifying every item as brew / cask / mas / vscode / manual / drop.

File What it holds
Brewfile 3 taps, 14 formulae, 15 casks, 12 vscode, 4 npm lines, with descriptions
apps.tsv 21 apps: 11 cask, 6 mas, 1 apple, 3 manual
brew-*.txt taps, leaves installed on request, casks
npm-global.txt, gems.txt, composer-global.txt, pipx.txt, uv-tools.txt, cargo.txt global language packages (missing tools are noted, not skipped silently)
vscode-extensions.txt, cursor-extensions.txt, jetbrains.txt, fonts.txt, system.txt editors, fonts, OS

private/ stays local (.gitignore:21). Before pushing, the 17 public files were checked for names, emails, hostnames, hardware IDs, paths, tokens and client names, and against every email and long token in private/. Nothing matched.

Corrections for the manifest

  • GPG Keychain.app → cask gpg-suite-no-mail, and Microsoft Teams.app → cask microsoft-teams. Both are pkg casks, so the script tagged them manual (inventory.sh tags pkg-cask apps as manual and drops App Store IDs #79).
  • Claude Code URL Handler.app → drop. The Claude Code CLI creates it.
  • App Store IDs (mas is not installed, so the Brewfile has no mas lines; inventory.sh tags pkg-cask apps as manual and drops App Store IDs #79): Dark Reader for Safari 1438243180, GRID Legends 1636273501, Termius 1176074088, Todoist 585829637, WireGuard 1451685025, Xcode 497799835.
  • composer-global.txt and cursor-extensions.txt hold error lines, not data. composer is a phar on a Mac with no PHP, and cursor is the Cursor agent CLI, not the IDE.
  • gems.txt is the system Ruby 2.6. Nearly all of it ships with macOS, and the user-installed rest is an old Jekyll setup.
  • Not recorded by the script (inventory.sh misses tools installed outside Homebrew #80): the Claude Code CLI, the Postman CLI and the pip --user packages.

Follow-ups

First run of `scripts/inventory.sh` on the Mac (macOS 27.0.1, arm64),
with the `brew bundle dump` fix from #78. It records what a new Mac
needs: the Brewfile dump (taps, formulae, casks, `vscode` and `npm`
lines), every app in /Applications and ~/Applications tagged by source,
global language packages, editor extensions, JetBrains config dirs and
fonts.

private/ (defaults, editor settings, hostnames, login items, crontab,
/etc copies) stays local, as .gitignore requires.
