Public website for the Causal Argumentative Learning Assistant: transparent, explainable and contestable causal discovery.

Local development

The project requires Node 24 and npm 12.

npm run dev

The development URL is http://localhost:4321/CArLA/ because production is configured for a GitHub Pages project site.

Preview an existing build on a remote server

If dist/ has already been built, the lightweight static server does not need Astro to start:

PREVIEW_HOST=0.0.0.0 node scripts/serve-preview.mjs

Forward port 4321 and open http://localhost:4321/CArLA/. PREVIEW_PORT can be set if port 4321 is already occupied.

The build output is written to dist/. The website is static: it has no backend, cookies, analytics, forms or account system.

First GitHub Pages deployment under CLArg

1. While signed into GitHub with permission to create CLArg repositories, create the public repository clarg-group/CArLA. Do not add a README, .gitignore, licence or other starter files because this local repository already has its own history and contents.

2. Add the organisation repository as the remote and push main:

   git remote add origin https://github.com/clarg-group/CArLA.git
   git push -u origin main

3. In clarg-group/CArLA, open Settings → Pages and select GitHub Actions under Build and deployment → Source. Repository admin or maintainer permission is required.

4. Open Actions → Deploy GitHub Pages and confirm that the workflow triggered by the push completes successfully. It can also be run manually using Run workflow.

5. The deployment is then available at https://clarg-group.github.io/CArLA/. Future pushes to main rebuild and redeploy it automatically.

Repository ownership, public origin, base path, project name and contact are centralised in site.config.ts.

Content and assets

• Research metadata and public claims are maintained in src/data/research.ts.
• People and acknowledgements are maintained in src/data/people.ts.
• Demo video variants, chapters, transcripts and paths are maintained in src/data/demo.ts.
• public/asset-manifest.json records the provenance of presentation-derived assets.
• Bundled Manrope and Source Serif 4 fonts retain their SIL Open Font Licence notices in licenses/.
• The original video and presentation files remain in ArguCausalDemos; this repository contains only site-ready derivatives.
