Summary

Review fixes for #143. That PR merged before this commit was pushed, so it lands here.

 Pages.update_in_tx (icon only)
- sends the stored title too → a legacy title > 255 chars fails validation
+ sends only changed title / icon
 Page title inputs (4 places)
-  maxLength={255}            # UTF-16 units: 255 emoji stop at 127
+ onChange: limitPageTitle # grapheme clusters, as the control plane counts
 plain-text copy
- "Notes" # inline file link without its address
+  "Notes (https://…/notes.txt)", "(image: P) (https://…/p.png)"
 keptStyle / kept_style (TS + Rust)
-  "color:red; /* n */ background-color:blue" → "color:red"
+  → "color:red; background-color:blue"
 Word list starting at (4)
-  <ol> starting at 1
+  <ol start="4">

docs/TradeoffsAndKnownLimits.md now describes the actual origin protections: a same-origin embed loses allow-same-origin, and Pod file responses carry Content-Security-Policy: sandbox and download HTML as an attachment.

Not changed: the CodeQL "unused Pos" note (it is used as a type namespace), and the suggestion to go offline before closing the socket in navigation-preferences.spec.ts (the close handshake then never completes and the test times out; the reconnect race did not occur in repeated runs).

Evidence

  • Before: each new test fails with its fix reverted (legacy title icon edit, 255-emoji title, inline file link copy, style comment in TS and Rust, Word (4) start).
    After: they pass.
  • editor bun run test 1137 pass, corpus, type-check, fmt, lint; webapps tests 700 pass, type-check, fmt; kernel test + lint; control-plane format and Pod tests 79 pass; Pod browser page-details, sidebar, navigation-preferences pass.

Merge Danger

Door: two-way

Blast Radius: small

Title inputs, plain-text copy, and style filtering only; the style change keeps more declarations than before, never fewer.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Pasted numbered lists from Microsoft Word retain their original starting number, including when numbering begins after other content.
    • Plain-text output includes resolved addresses for linked assets and images when resource details are included.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Page-title editing respects the 255-code-point limit while preserving existing text where possible, including emoji and combined characters.
    • CSS comments no longer interfere with supported style declarations.
    • Changing a page icon no longer overwrites an existing long title.

- Send only changed title and icon values to the Page edit action, so a
  legacy title above 255 characters allows icon edits.
- Limit Page titles by grapheme clusters, as the control plane counts
  them, instead of the UTF-16 units of `maxLength`.
- Follow inline file links and images in plain-text copy with their
  resolved reader addresses.
- Ignore CSS comments when the editor and the Rust kernel filter style
  declarations.
- Keep the first number of a pasted Word numbered list as `start`.
- Describe the actual origin protections for embeds and Pod files in
  the known-limits document.

Walkthrough

This pull request updates Pod title editing and page updates, CSS comment filtering, Word-list numbering, and plain-text asset output. It also revises embed documentation and adds related tests and changelog entries.

Changes: Pod page-title length

Layer / File(s) Summary
Title limit and input integration
app/webapps/pod/content-api.ts, app/webapps/pod/content-api.test.ts, app/webapps/pod/base-page.tsx, app/webapps/pod/message-artifacts.tsx, app/webapps/pod/page-navigation.tsx, app/webapps/pod/page-workspace.tsx, CHANGELOG.md
limitPageTitle applies a 255-code-point limit and preserves matching prior text and whole grapheme clusters when truncating inserted text. Pod title inputs use the helper during edits. Tests cover Unicode titles and legacy titles above the limit.

Page updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Page update fields
app/control_plane/lib/ankole/pod/pages.ex, app/control_plane/test/ankole/pod/pages_test.exs
The update sends only changed title and icon values. It no longer includes children_view or updated_at. A regression test checks that an icon update preserves a stored 300-character title.

CSS comment filtering

Layer / File(s) Summary
Style comment filtering
app/kernel/src/page_document/tree.rs, app/kernel/src/page_document/tests.rs, libs/ankole-editor/src/document/normalize.ts, libs/ankole-editor/test/canonical.test.ts
The kernel and editor remove CSS comments before filtering style declarations. Tests cover closed comments and unterminated comments.

Word-list numbering

Layer / File(s) Summary
Word-list starting numbers
libs/ankole-editor/src/editor/word-lists.ts, libs/ankole-editor/SPEC.md, libs/ankole-editor/e2e/clipboard.spec.ts, CHANGELOG.md
Ordered lists use supported starting numbers other than 1. The specification, clipboard test, and changelog describe this behavior.

Asset addresses in plain text

Layer / File(s) Summary
Resolved asset text
app/webapps/pod/state/document-tools.ts, app/webapps/pod/state/document-tools.test.ts
Asset attributes update only when resolution returns a truthy address. Plain-text output appends resolved addresses to image and asset-link text unless resources are omitted.

Embed limits documentation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Embed origin and file-response notes
docs/TradeoffsAndKnownLimits.md
The documentation distinguishes Pod-origin embeds from external pages and redirects. It also describes Pod file-response headers, HTML attachment handling, and the trust boundary for published Applet frames.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "Address review comments on the editor QA fixes" is vague. It does not name the concrete changes. The changeset covers several areas: page title limits at grapheme boundaries, sending only changed title and icon in Pages.update_in_tx, CSS comment handling in kept_style and keptStyle, Word list start numbers, asset address output in plain text, and documentation of iframe and file-response protections. The title does not name any of these. It relies on the reader to know PR #143 and the review thread.

Resolution

Rename the PR to name the main change. For example: "Limit page titles at grapheme boundaries and keep ordered-list start numbers" or name the change that matters most to the team. Keep the title concise and avoid phrases that depend on another PR or review thread.

The control plane counts Page title length in code points, so the Pod
client now does too. When an edit goes over the limit, only the inserted
text is shortened, whole grapheme clusters at a time, and the existing
title stays. Editing statistics skip the address after an inline file
link, and the known-limits note on embeds names Applet frame pages.

An inserted zero-width joiner could leave half of an emoji that joins the
existing text, and a replacement that did not fit dropped the selected
text too. The client now cuts at a grapheme cluster boundary of the whole
edited title and keeps the previous title when nothing inserted fits.

Outside diff Strip an unclosed comment before joining nested styles.

50-59: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Strip an unclosed comment before joining nested styles.

When an outer span uses style="color:red; /* open", keptStyle returns the original value. joinStyle then appends the nested declaration inside the comment. CSS ignores that nested declaration because an unclosed comment consumes the rest of the style attribute.

Preserve styles with closed comments, but return the cleaned declarations when the comment is unclosed.

Suggested fix
   const kept = declarations.filter(declaration =>
     keptStyles.has(/^\s*([a-z-]+)\s*:/i.exec(declaration)?.[1]!.toLowerCase() ?? '')
   )
-  return kept.length === declarations.length ? style : kept.map(declaration => declaration.trim()).join('; ')
+  const hasUnclosedComment = /\/\*(?:(?!\*\/)[\s\S])*$/.test(style)
+  return kept.length === declarations.length && !hasUnclosedComment
+    ? style
+    : kept.map(declaration => declaration.trim()).join('; ')

Outside diff Normalize styles that contain comments before joining nested spans.

437-463: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Normalize styles that contain comments before joining nested spans.

For color:red; /* open, kept_style removes the comment for filtering, then returns the original string because all remaining declarations are kept. join_style appends the nested declaration inside the unclosed comment, so CSS ignores it. Return the normalized declarations whenever comment removal changed the input.

An unclosed comment swallowed every declaration joined after it when a
nested span flattened into its parent. The editor and the kernel now drop
the open comment and keep the remaining declarations.
